Farm to Table Wedding Inspiration

One question and trend that I hear a lot from brides is, how do we support local businesses and fresh produce farmers for our wedding? Well we’re excited to share a shoot created by Willow Rose Events and a team of creative, who collaborated to combine elements of what fresh, supporting local, and free flowing/organic style looked like. “We wanted to inspire couples that can include all local vendors, small businesses wherever possible and why buying local is good for you too.”

SETTING: We had the opportunity to work with Marshall’s Real Farmer’s market using their barn event space. It is a perfect setting for us, as it is a real working farm. We were able to use and showcase all their fresh grown vegetables that were currently in season and all homemade jams and preserves to create a “favours stand” where guests can choose what the like. We also included local favourites – Miyu Beauty which combines beauty and tea and health benefits to give a little variety. We used a lemonade stand to display these to keep to a rustic feel to the entire wedding.

INVITATIONS: We wanted this shoot to be fun, as we believe in the free spirited feel to getting married at a farm. From customized bride and groom chair signs to feature “my tanned farmer man” and “my farm girl” to signages to pick your local favours were all a small tribute to our fellow farmers.

CAKE & BAKED GOODS: When we think of a farmer’s market, or farm, we think of all homemade and home-baked goodies. Crumb and Berry created a table with all freshly baked goods. The cake was kept as natural and organic as possible. To create an element of fun to it, we included the popular macarons, (hand painted to match the invitation suites), and putting them into egg cartons to complete a farmer’s market tone to the table.

FLORALS: Mint Floral Co. incorporated a lot of texture to all the flowers to create a wild and organic look. Little kumquats were also included in the centerpiece – again trying to include anything local grown where possible. They were picked from the florist’s garden. Little olive headpieces were created for the flower girls along with it. We also wanted to include a pop of colour to our tablescape, using oranges with matching floral as place card holders.

Dress/Look/Jewelry: We chose 2 dresses – both free flowing so we can display 2 different hair/makeup inspiration. Everything about the look of the bride was meant to be natural looking, so a natural peachy make up and side braids and later an up do for n evening look. Jewelry was chosen carefully to show what local talent there is, all handmade. The ring is handmade, one of a kind design by Emily Gill Designs. All other jewelry are one of a kind pieces made from recycled vintage materials, clip on earrings, vintage brooches, scarf clips and old beads by Hattitude Jewelry. We have also chosen little boho free spirited dresses for the flower girls. These are locally designed by a Canadian, handcrafted in Haiti. I believe all little kids should be able to run free barefooted and the dresses couldn’t be a better fit for the shoot!
