It’s not about us, it’s about we. It’s not about me, it’s about you. It’s about all of us. That’s what we’re all here for, to help, uplift and empower each other. Without those elements, this world would be so desolate. And that’s not the type of world I want to live in.
I really can’t believe that today marks 3 years since the devastation that’s happened in Japan. I can still remember the evening while I was working really late at night, and seeing it happen live. I couldn’t believe my eyes. My heart sank because I felt so helpless not being to help them. My eyes were brimming with tears, because I felt their fear and sadness. A few days later, I was struck with an inspiration to create something that I was hoping could help out. But I was discouraged by my own thoughts, thinking, “That’s so crazy. I’m crazy to think I can raise any money.” But I’m grateful for friendships like Henny‘s and Lydia’s that gave me courage and confidence that anything is possible. They reminded me again that, yes, it’s not about us. It was about them! Japan needed our help and it wasn’t our time to sit on our asses, give in to our fears and not do anything. And just like that For Japan With Love was born. Little did I know how powerful the idea was. When you receive a letter from someone all the way in Japan thanking us, you know you have made a deep impact.
With a “we, you, us” mentality we were able to raise over $70,000. That number still gives me goosebumps. But really it wasn’t us that made it happen, it was everyone. Seeing the power of social media and the community is amazing. If we could do this all the time, just imagine how the world would be. Let’s continue to remember this day, for the lives lost, the lives that were saved, and the lives that our little community was able to help. I truly believe in the power that every little bit helps. But always remember, if we don’t have love in all that we do, it’s just a show. When you pay it forward, with Love, then WE can change the face of the world.
