When you think of honeymoon, you think of the perfect getaway with your brand new hubby, enjoying each other’s company and making new memories together as newlyweds. But sometimes things don’t happen the way you plan. Thinking back on my own honeymoon, it was far from what we’ve planned. The first time we tried to leave for our Greece honeymoon, we were rejected at the airport because I didn’t have the right papers. So we ended up renting a car and set off on our 2-week road trip adventure and had a blast! The second time we tried going to Greece, we got to go, but had major setbacks returning home because I was once again missing my visa to come back to the US. But nonetheless, we had a great time together, and it certainly made our relationship stronger after all is said and done.
This morning on the radio, I heard of the unbelievable honeymoon story of this Swedish couple, Stefan & Erika. They had planned on a 4-month honeymoon trip with their baby girl, leaving plenty of time to explore, only to encounter six major natural disasters! They survived the worst snowstorms in Munich, a major cyclone in Cairns, bushfires in Perth, massive flooding in Brisbane, earthquake in New Zealand and finally the recent largest earthquake in Japan. Read their story here.
Of course, in the midst of all the disasters they encountered, they managed to stick together and made the most out of it. They’ve learned to “Always expect the worst and hope for the best. And be prepared for anything!” The experience also humbled them. “Although we’ve had some bad luck, we still have our lives. Our thoughts are with those who couldn’t escape these disasters. In the end, we are very fortunate to be alive.”

Our thoughts are still with the people in Japan. In partnership with For Japan With Love, a San Francisco Bay Area Charity Benefit was created to continue the disaster relief efforts towards ‘For Japan With Love™’. On Tuesday, April 26 , join us for an evening to honor those in Japan who have been affected by the recent devastation. Participate in a silent auction and enjoy sips and sweets to the tunes of DJ Spintronix while we come together to help those who so desperately need us. All donations at the event will go towards emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies to Japan via Shelterbox. Our goal is to raise $5,000. If you’re in the area, or would love to drive or fly there, we’d love for you to join us! RSVP here. Thank you.
