Truvelle designer/creative director Gaby Bayona aimed to create an eye-pleasing and non-typical fashion film showcasing her designs for some time. After numerous coffee dates with friend and young filmmaker Mehdi Nowroozi, a plan to bring their vision to fruition was solidified.
When asked where the concept came from, director/editor (and also wedding photographer!) Mehdi Nowroozi says, “As a filmmaker, I just want to do something original, something people will immediately recognize as fresh, I want people to be hypnotized and mystified.”
As for the story line, “Mannequin is an 8 minute adventure fantasy fashion film showcasing Truvelle’s 2015 collection. A lot of my thinking has gravitated towards mannequins – it’s been my artistic motif for the past 2 years. When Truvelle approached me asking if I’d be interested in coming up with a film for their 2015 dress collection, I knew where to start.” Gaby was on board with Mehdi’s concept, and with ideas and plans for execution underway, some whimsical magic was soon created.
Mehdi also considers himself a surrealist, “I like ideas that are unconventional, ideas that not the normal person would think of. That’s what gets me excited, that’s where my strengths lie and also where I feel I can make a unique contribution in filmmaking.”
With the perfect crew and team falling into place, Mannequin was filmed in chilly temperatures on a gorgeous acreage nestled in the Lower Mainland of BC. Casting was simple, when actress Maya-Roisin Isabella Slater came to Gaby’s mind she was quickly asked to star in the film as The Mannequin, Truvelle’s own John Carlo Reyes as The Mystery Man, & Truvelle’s studio pet Daria, as The Hedgehog.
